Kevin Jonas Has a Minute to Win It

Oldest Jonas Brother makes game show history.

NBC’s newest reality game show, Minute to Win It, features contestants trying to complete difficult tasks involving ordinary, household objects, in under a minute. Tonight’s episode featured the show’s first celebrity contestant, Kevin Jonas, who played for his charity- the Change for the Children Foundation.

“The Change for the Children Foundation all started with Nick,” Kevin explained to Access Hollywood behind the scenes. “When he was on Broadway, he saw some kids who were underprivileged [and wanted to help them]. It transcended from that moment to including Diabetes, Special Olympics and Volunteerism. In the last two years, we’ve been able to raise over $2.5 million, just me, Joe and Nick, through concert tickets and things like that.”

The oldest member of pop trio “The Jonas Brothers” was challenged with several tasks, which, if completed, could earn his charity half a million dollars.

“We’re gonna make a huge difference. It’s for the kids, baby,” Jonas repeated. He explained to the show’s host, Guy Fieri, that after the first time he watched the show, he practiced the tasks for four hours.

His first task was “Nervous Nelly”, where the 22-year-old star had pedometers strapped to both of his arms and legs. He was instructed to move his body in such a way that, after a minute, the four meters would report 500 clicks. Jonas abandoned his aloof, rockstar personality and let loose, running in place and doing the funky chicken in order to complete the task. He succeeded, nearly doubling the amount of clicks necessary.

Jonas then sailed through “Nose Dive”, where he was instructed to transfer six cotton balls to separate bowls, using only his nose and petroleum jelly. “This guy’s a warrior! Warrior” proclaimed Fieri.

The teen girls that filled the crowd swooned as Jonas shook his rear during “Junk in the Trunk”, utilizing “unlicensed moves, outlawed in some countries.” Jonas tried to remove eight ping pong balls from an empty tissue box strapped around his waist, and succeeded with 23 seconds still on the clock. His success was due to help from his wife, Danielle, who continually shouted “Lean back!”

Next was “Egg Roll”, where Kevin had to use a pizza box as a fan to blow two eggs into a squared off area. As a Jonas, Kevin has had plenty of experience with “fans” – he passed that task as well.

“The Nutstacker” came next, a task which many Minute to Win It contestants have been unable to complete. Contestants are instructed to stack eight metal bolts on top of each other using only a chopstick. Kevin failed at his first attempt. Nick, the youngest member of the Jonas Brothers, tried to encourage his brother, stating “The position of the nuts is really important.” After minutes of uncontrollable laughter at this innocent remark, Jonas reattempted the task and succeeded with only a second to spare. This brought Kevin to the $50,000 mark. Jonas explained that he and his brothers gave a $50,000 grant to his Change for a Children Foundation last year, and it helped feed 500,000 people.

Jonas then continued to breeze through three more tasks – “Ka-Broom” (where he used a broom to catapult marshmallows from plates into a cup in his hands), “Matchmaker” (where he moved 18 candies into separate cups according to their color), and “Keep the Change” (a task where four quarters are stacked on top of a dollar bill which rests on the edge of a glass – contestants must pull the dollar out from under the quarters without making them fall off the glass’ edge. Jonas completed the task in the first seven seconds, and continued to successfully pull the dollar bills off of 9 of the 10 cups, instead of just the required 2). He met his match with “Don’t Blow the Joker”, where contestants must try to blow all but one playing card off of a bottle. Regardless of his inability to complete that task, Kevin Jonas won his charity a whopping $250,000, the highest total in the show’s history.
